Individual & Family Health Insurance

If you don't get coverage through an employer, you'll still need a health plan. For many people, that means buying individual health insurance. Everyone is different, so it's important to choose a health insurance plan that works for your lifestyle and your financial situation.

Individual health insurance can be purchased through the exchange, or directly from the health insurance carrier. There's an annual open enrollment window for individual coverage, which runs from November 1 to January 31. Outside of open enrollment, you need a “qualifying life event” to trigger a special enrollment period.

Medicare Part A and Part B only covers 80% of your medical expenses, which could leave you exposed to large out of pocket expenses. A Medicare Supplement, or Medicare Advantage plans fill in the "gaps" in coverage, such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. To be eligible to enroll in a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage plan, you must be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B.

The best time to buy is during your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period. Your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period lasts for six months. It starts on the first day of the first month in which you are:

  • Age 65 or older and
  • Enrolled in Medicare Part B

Small Group Health Insurance

Health insurance provided to employees by an employer is called group coverage. Depending on how many employees there are, benefits covered by group and individual plans may be different.

Offering the "right" health insurance plan is one of the most important decisions you can make as a small business owner – keeping employees happy and healthy benefits you in the long run.

Life Insurance

Anyone looking to protect their loved ones in case of death should consider life insurance. It can be an important tool in the following situations: replacement income, paying final expenses, creating an inheritance for your dependents, etc.

The most affordable and popular type of life insurance is Term Life, which provides the full face amount to your dependents in the event of your passing. The proper amount of insurance allows your family to continue their lifestyle, even though your income is no longer available.

Travel Insurance

Whether you are a U.S. citizen traveling abroad or a resident from another country planning a trip to the United States, travel insurance is strongly recommended as a means to supplement your individual medical insurance plan. The coverage allows you to design it according to your needs, such as different deductibles and maximum benefits, allowing you the insurance coverage you desire during your travels abroad.

Items covered by travel insurance:

  • Accidents or illnesses
  • Medical evacuation
  • Trip interruption
  • Accidental death or dismemberment
  • Returning ones remains to home country
  • Lost or stolen baggage

Short Term Health

Short Term health insurance is a flexible health coverage option when you need coverage for a period of transition in your life.

Short Term insurance may be for you if you're:

  • Unable to apply for coverage because you missed Open Enrollment and you don't qualify for Special Enrollment
  • Waiting for coverage to start
  • Between jobs or waiting for benefits to begin at your new job
